Abstract

The 4th book of the Annals is, in Paratore's words, the most important book in terms of economy and development of Tacitus' historiography. The first chapter includes the portrait of Aelius Seianus, who was an omnipotent and highly ambitious minister of Tiberius. This portrait is the best Tacitus has ever made, and it clearly proves Tacitus to be an incredible artist as well as a great historian.
