La naturaleza del determinismo estoico
Main Article Content
Abstract
This paper tries to define the nature of Stoic determinism through an analysis of how it differs from three other forms of determinism: general determinism, which stems fromthe Megarians and their views on possibility, trascendent determinism, which constitutes one of Aristotle's targets in Int. 9, and extemal determinism, whose first clear formulation appears in Cicero's De fato in the context of an anti-Stoic criticism. In each case several reasons are offered for thinking that Stoic determinism may successfully avoid the main philosophical objections against these three forms of determinism.
