Abstract
Si las letras mexicanas del siglo XIX lograron una fervorosa conciencia de nacionalidad, no por eso olvidan una de las "constantes" más entrañables como es el cultivo de las letras latinas, así no muestren ni el volumen ni el mérito de las que produjo el XVIII, el siglo de oro de nuestra latinidad. La futura historia de la literatura latino-mexicana —que después de casi medio siglo, sigue siendo el anhelo insatisfecho por el que aspiraba vivamente Gabriel Méndez Planearte—, deberá tomar en cuenta las diversas expresiones de las humanidades clásicas y, en concreto, de las obras latinas escritas en provincia, como afluentes de la magna producción latina centralizada en la capital de la nación y en algunas ciudades de Italia donde vivieron desterrados los jesuítas latinos
del Setecientos.
