Abstract
Since Ovidius is a rhetorical school-educated poet, it is possible to examine his works under the light of that science. The rhetorical analysis of the heroid IV hows that Fedra's speech is not persuasive in its imaginary world, and that Ovidius' real letter might pretend to amend the behavior not of the fictitious characters, but that of his contemporary real readers.
