Abstract
Como es bien sabido, las misiones dominicanas de Nueva España se iniciaron al desembarcar en costas mexicanas, procedentes de La Española, fray Tomás Ortiz, fray Domingo de Betanzos y otros diez frailes, el 19 de junio de 1526. Cuatro años más tarde, por circunstancias que no hay lugar para examinar, estos misioneros idearon la creación de una provincia autónoma. Las actas que aquí se publican fueron, entonces, las del cabildo celebrado seis años después de la formal erección de la provincia de Santiago de México, el 23 de agosto cíe 1541, bajo el provincialato de fray Domingo cíe la Cruz y siendo definidores fray Domingo de Betanzos, fray Pedro Delgado, fray Andrés de Moguer y fray Diego Ximénez. Puede consultarse su texto en los folios 5r a 14r del manuscrito HHB [M-M 142] arriba citado. Los encargados de redactarlo fueron, por su orden de intervención, fray Diego Ximénez (fols. 5r a 9v, y 12r a 14r) y fray Domingo de Betanzos (fols. lOr a llv).
