¿Depende todo lo que hacemos de factores externos? Causalidad externa y causalidad interna en la psicología estoica de las acciones
Main Article Content
Abstract
If the world is governed by causal determinism, then everything we do is fully determined by external factors alone (Cicero, De fato, 40). If the objection were correct, causal determinism would be unable to accommodate the fact, recognized by both parties, that we are responsible for many of the things we do. Chrysippus attempted to save causal determinism from this objection by advancing a distinction between internal and external causes. He argued that even though our actions are necessary and inevitable, as determinism requires, they are not determined by external factors alone. We also offer a Spanish translation of the main texts we use in this reconstruction.
