Abstract

Saint Hieronymus, like all Christian Latin authors of the III and IV centuries, was formed in the traditional pagan school. This inculcated him a great liking for the classic authors and the beauties of speech, which would accompany him throughout his life. Saint Hieronymus offers abundant testimonies of the pagan
school's influence in him. The author of this article offers an outline of this aspect of Saint Hieronymus' personality, and illustrates it with selected texts.
