Abstract

My contribution to this Tribute consists of reflecting on the presence of the Romancero in the academic life of Aurelio González. The study of the ballads crosses all his lines of research from different places of siege to the genre: the old ballads, the modern traditional ballads, the American ballads. The poetics and grammar of the ballads worried him and occupied him since his doctoral thesis dedicated to the study of the forms and functions of the principles in
the old ballads in 1984, to the American ballads to which he dedicated the last 20 years of his life. Likewise, the study of modern oral tradition had him as a participant in the large surveys carried out in Spain at the end of the 20th century coordinated by Diego Catalán. These pages constitute a journey through the romance studies of Aurelio González that highlights his unavoidable contribution to the field.
