Abstract
Through a comparative analysis, we study the contents that the Byzantine scholar, Michael Psellos (11th c.), extracted from the Epitome of Medicine, written by the medical author Paul of Aegina (7th c.). This compendium was his main source when composing his Medical Poem, a didactic work intended to whet the appetite for medicine among his learned friends. Our aim is to investigate why Psellos made a partial and disproportionate use of this source, since he mainly uses the first three books of the seven that make up the work of Paul of Aegina.
