Las cartas en yaqui de Juan "Bandera"

Contenido principal del artículo

John M. Dedrick

Resumen

Eleven letters —ten of them in the Yaqui language — written concerning the famous native leader Juan Ignacio Jusacamea, 'Bandera', during the period from July 1, 1830, to November 8, 1832, are transcribed, translated and introduced in this article. These extremely valuable testimonies preserved at the Bancroft Library, attracted the interest of the late Edward H. Spicer who provided John Dedrick with a copy of them. These letters constitute one of the earliest examples of written Yaqui. What is probably the oldest available text in Yaqui has been published also in Tlalocan, V. 8, 279-288.
