Abstract

Latin in Venezuela was the language of culture and knowledge since its inception in the sixteenth century. The article deals with the introduction of Latin in Venezuela, at elementary and higher education levels, as well as the natives ' instruction in this language. The eventual decline of Latin in this country was an indication that Venezuelan culture followed universal trends.
