Ignacio Bosque holds a doctorate in Spanish philology. He is an Honorary Professor of the Spanish Language at the Universidad Complutense de Madrid, as well as a member of the Real Academia Española and the Academia Panameña de la Lengua. He has been awarded honorary doctorates from the Universities of Alicante, Córdoba, El Salvador, and the Universidad Americana de Managua, and a variety of recognitions, including the Premio Extraordinario Nebrija (1993), the Premio Nacional de Investigación Ramón Menéndez Pidal (2010), and the Premio Internacional Alfonso Reyes (2012).

Among his major works are the Gramática descriptiva de la lengua española (1999), co-authored with Violeta Demonte, a reference work detailing the morphology and syntax of the Spanish language, and other grammars. He directed the advanced course in Spanish philology at the Universidad Internacional Menéndez Pelayo, and has been a visiting professor at various universities in Europe, Asia, and the Americas. He has also published numerous articles on the relationship between grammar and the lexicon.

His major areas of specialization are Spanish grammar and grammatical theory, and his fields of interest include formal syntax, dialectal syntax, the relationship between morphology and syntax, the teaching of grammar, and the relationship between grammar and the lexicon.
