Resumen

The reading of the T650 glyph has been a puzzle for decades. Here, we analyze the semantic contexts in which the glyph appears together with available phonetic evidence to arrive at a phonetic reading of JOM. We provide grammatical reconstructions of the lexical contexts and discuss the rebuses involved in non-semantic contexts.

Luís Lopes, Universidad de Porto

Portugués. Es doctor en Ciencias de la Computación y se desempeña como profesor asociado en el Departamento de Ciencias de la Computación de la Facultad de Ciencias de la Universidad de Porto, Portugal. Ha sido investigador independiente en epigrafía maya durante veinte años, con un interés especial en el desciframiento de la escritura, la organización política y la mitología maya. Entre sus publicaciones más recientes se encuentran “A Reading for the Stinger Glyph”, “A New Look at the Name Phrase of the Snake Lady” y “A Rare Form of the ‘si’ Syllable”.

Barbara MacLeod, Investigadora independiente

Estadounidense. Licenciada, maestra y doctora en Antropología por la Universidad de Washington en Seattle y de Texas en Austin. Es investigadora independiente, especializada en epigrafía, iconografía, lingüística e historia de la cultura maya. Desarrolla actualmente el proyecto “Celebrations in the Heart of the Mountain”. Entre sus publicaciones recientes se encuentran “Hidden in Plain Sight: The Codical Sign T648 and its Forerunner T694 in Three Classic Period Contexts”, con Péter Bíró y Michael Grofe, y “Ritos agrícolas mayas clásicos desarrollados en cuevas”, con Alejandro Sheseña.

Alejandro Sheseña, Universidad de Ciencias y Artes de Chiapas

Mexicano. Obtuvo en el año 2003 el grado de doctor en Historia por la Universidad Estatal de Voronezh, Rusia, en coordinación con el Centro de Estudios Mesoamericanos de Moscú Yuri Knórozov. Se desempeña como investigador de tiempo completo en la Facultad de Humanidades de la Universidad de Ciencias y Artes de Chiapas. Recibió el Premio Nacional INAH Alfonso Caso por la mejor investigación publicada en arqueología en 2016, y la Medalla Yuri Knórozov al mérito académico otorgada por la Universidad Estatal Rusa de Humanidades y el Gobierno del Estado de Yucatán en 2020. Entre sus últimas publicaciones se encuentran “Ira, enfermedades y naguales entre los mayas clásicos”, “Excavaciones arqueológicas en el sitio de Bolonkín, Chiapas, México” y “La semiótica étnica de Yuri Knórozov”.
