Rosa Graciela Montes Miró holds a bachelor’s degree in theoretical linguistics and master’s and doctoral degrees in sociolinguistics from Georgetown University, Washington, D.C. She has worked at a number of institutions and research centers in Mexico and other countries. Since 1982, she has been a research professor in the Graduate Program in Language Sciences of the Institute of Social Sciences and Humanities, Benemérita Universidad Autónoma de Puebla. Her research focuses on the use and functions of language in social contexts, the way in which linguistic resources are used to organize texts and discourses, and their sociopragmatic functions. She has published studies on the development of sociopragmatic ability in children and the interactional bases for language acquisition and development. Her interests are in language acquisition, the use of language in social contexts, Spanish grammar and pragmatics, interaction and subjective positioning in discourse, courtesy/discourtesy, and body language and discourse.
