Code of Ethics

Ethical Principles and Statement Concerning Negligence

Responsibilities and Actions of the Editorial Committee

  • The description of the peer review process is defined and made known by the Editorial Committee so that authors know the review criteria. The Editorial Committee will always be willing to address any issues in the review process.

Responsibilities and Actions of the Editor

  • The Editor is responsible for everything published in the journal, and shall work to meet the needs of readers and authors, constantly improve the journal, ensure the quality of the material it publishes, and promote academic standards. The editor shall also, when necessary, publish corrections, clarifications, retractions, and apologies.
  • The Editor’s decision to accept or reject a manuscript for publication must be based solely on its importance, originality, clarity, and relevance to the journal.
  • The Editor shall guarantee the confidentiality of the review process, and shall not at any time reveal the identity of authors to the reviewers or reveal the identity of the reviewers.
  • The Editor is responsible for deciding which articles will be accepted by the journal, and the Editorial Committee shall make the final decision about which articles to publish.
  • The Editor is responsible for informing authors in a timely manner of the status of their manuscripts in the review process, and of the results of the review.
  • The Editor shall evaluate submitted manuscripts and their intellectual content without regard to the author’s race, gender, sexual orientation, religious beliefs, ethnic origin, nationality, or political views.
  • The Editor and members of the Editorial Staff shall not divulge information regarding submitted manuscripts to anyone other than their authors, reviewers, potential reviewers, or other editorial consultants.
  • Unpublished material contained in submitted manuscripts shall not be used in the Editor’s own research without the express written permission of the author. Privileged information and the ideas obtained through the peer review process shall be confidential, and shall not be used for personal advantage. The Editor shall make fair, impartial decisions and guarantee a fair, appropriate peer review process.

Authors’ Responsibilities

  • Authors must guarantee that their manuscripts are the product of their original work and that data have been obtained in an ethical manner. They must also guarantee that their manuscripts have not previously been published and are not under consideration by another journal. A work is considered previously published when one of the following apply:

1) When the complete text has been published.

2) When substantial parts of previously published materials form part of the submitted manuscript.

3) When the submitted manuscript is contained in proceedings published in full.

4) These criteria refer to previous publication in physical or electronic form, and in any language.

  • For the publication of their manuscripts, authors must strictly follow the corresponding norms defined by the Editorial Committee.
  • Authors shall send the journal a version of their manuscript with all personal information redacted (name, contact information, institutional affiliation, etc.), and excluding their name from bibliographic references in which it appears.
  • Authors of original research reports shall provide a precise description of the work carried out, as well as an objective discussion of its importance. Underlying data must be accurately provided in the manuscript, with sufficient detail and references so that others can use their work. Fraudulent or deliberately imprecise statements are unethical and unacceptable.
  • Authors shall guarantee that they have written their manuscripts in their entirety, and if they have used the words or work of others, these must be appropriately cited. Plagiarism in all of its forms is unethical conduct and unacceptable. Any manuscript that involves plagiarism will be eliminated from consideration for publication.
  • In general, an author shall not publish manuscripts that describe essentially the same research in more than one journal or primary publication. The submission of the same manuscript to more than one journal is unethical conduct, and its publication is unacceptable.
  • Sources must be appropriately recognized. Authors shall cite the publications that have been influential in the shaping of the submitted manuscript. Information obtained privately in conversations, correspondence, or discussion with others shall not be used without explicit written permission.
  • Authorship shall be limited to those who have made a significant contribution to the conception, design, execution, or interpretation of the study. All of those who have made such contributions must appear as coauthors. Primary authors must assure that all coauthors are included, and that all of them have seen and approved the final version of the manuscript and agreed to its submission for publication.
  • All authors shall disclose in their manuscripts any conflict of financial or other interests that could influence their results or interpretation. All sources of financial support for the project must be disclosed.
  • If authors discover a significant error or inaccuracy in their published article, it is their obligation to immediately notify the Editor or Director of the journal and cooperate in the making of a correction or retraction.

Responsibilities of Reviewers

  • Reviewers shall notify the Editor of any unethical conduct on the part of authors and provide any information that may constitute a reason for rejection of their manuscript. They shall also maintain confidential all information related to the manuscripts they review.
  • Reviewers must receive the necessary guidelines to carry out their reviews. The Editor shall provide them with guidelines to consider in their evaluations.
  • Reviewers must notify the Editor as soon as possible whether they are qualified to review the research described in a manuscript, and if it will not be possible to carry out the review.
  • Any manuscript received for review must be treated as confidential. It may not be shown or discussed with other experts, except with the consent of the Editor.
  • Reviewers shall act in an objective manner. Personal criticism of the author is inappropriate. Reviewers shall express their points of view clearly and with valid arguments.
  • Privileged information and ideas obtained through peer review shall be treated as confidential and shall not be used for personal advantage.
  • Reviewers shall not evaluate manuscripts with which they have conflicts of interest.

The Anuario de Letras. Lingüística y Filología subjects submitted manuscripts to strict controls for plagiarism and for duplicate submissions to other journals. The journal uses the antiplagiarism software Crossref Similarity Check-iThenticate. All submissions will be processed in this system as part of the initial review.
