Pedro Martín Butragueño received his doctorate in Spanish linguistics from the Universidad Complutense de Madrid. He is a member of the Academia Mexicana de la Lengua and also of the Sistema Nacional de Investigadores, as well as a research professor in the Center for Linguistic and Literary Studies at El Colegio de México. He was Director of the Nueva Revista de Filología Hispánica, In 2002 he received the Premio Wigberto Jiménez Moreno from the Instituto Nacional de Antropología e Historia. His major works include, with Yolanda Lastra, the Corpus sociolingüístico de la ciudad de México. He has taught a variety of courses, workshops, and seminars, individually and in collaboration, at El Colegio de México. He has been a visiting professor at various Mexican and international universities, and has presented and commented on papers and delivered lectures at those institutions. His major research interests are linguistic, phonic, and syntactic change, intonation, linguistic methodology, and morphosyntactic variation in Spanish.
