Contenido principal del artículo
Resumen
This Mazatec etiological tale was transcribed in Chiquihitlan, District of Cuicatlan, Oaxaca, in 1971. According to tradition, two-headed eagles caught and devoured the children of the village. But the inhabitants made large baskets with which they covered the children's heads. In this way the eagles were prevented from capturing them, and the town acquired the name of Chiquihuitlan, i.e. , Place of Baskets.
