Resumen

This Zapotec text from Yatzachi el Bajo, Oaxaca, deals with the existence and activities of witches in the area of the town. Witchcraft was believed involved in a- specific case described. In other instances discussed, the use of bones of the dead, needles, and stones to do harm by witches is mentioned. The Zapotec text was written by Gregorio M. López. The dialect is similar to that spoken in the central area of the Villa Alta district. López also wrote the literal translation to Spanish, with some editing by Butler, who wrote the free translation.
