Resumen

Father McCarty publishes a document written in Spanish in 1835 by Piman Indians from Caborca, a town less than fifty miles from the Gulf of California and the westernmost mission of the Pimería Alta. The document reflects the problems of land-grabbing directed at Indian lands following the rejection of the centralized authority of the Spanish monarchy. After a lengthy and detailed description of the decadence of the local mission, a plea is made for the restitution of traditional mission regulations and a plan suggested for the region's economic recovery. An annotated English translation of the document is included.
