Resumen

A writing system is a mnemonic device. Mnemonic devices can be viewed as kinds of structures which are abbreviations of the structures. Between the original structure and the structure of the mnemonic device there exists a kind of morphism. That is, given certain information the original structure can be coded into the structure of the mnemonic device and vice versa.

Marshall Durbin

Doctorado en Filosofía en la State University of New York en 1964. su campo de trabajo abarca a las lenguas indígenas de América del norte y ha realizado investigaciones sobre el apadhe, el kitchin, el quechua y el maya yucateco. Actualmente es profesor auxiliar de antropología en la Universidad de Tulane, y antes lo fue de lingüística en la Universidad de Cornell. Entre sus publicaciones citaremos: Language, The Goals of Ethnoscience yThe Epistemology of Phonology.
