Hacia la lectura ética de <i>El testigo</i> de Juan Villoro

Resumen

Resumen: Este artículo explora la relación entre memoria personal e historia oficial en la novela El testigo de Juan Villoro. La memoria es analizada como una forma de iluminar los intersticios de la historia y, más aún, de incomodarla, violentarla, renarrarla. La tensión memoria-historia, que se genera en el protagonista de la novela, hace que el “deseo” del libro no sólo corra hacia delante en dirección a lo que pasará sino también hacia el pasado. En este sentido, El testigo
es leído en tanto que “ficción archívica”; los cambios en el presente, una y otra vez, obligan a una relectura del pasado, lo cual resulta crucial, como un primer ajuste de cuentas, en el México democrático posterior al año 2000.

Abstract: This article explores the relationship between personal memory and official history in the novel El testigo by Juan Villoro. Memory is analyzed as a way to illuminate the gaps of history and, even more, to discomfort it, violet it, renarrate it. The tension between memory and history, which is generated in the protagonist of the novel, makes it so that the “desire” of the book does not only run toward the direction of what will happen, but also toward the past. In this sense, El testigo is read much like “archival fiction”; the changes in the present, now and again, obligue for a re-reading of the past, wich is crucial, for the first
settling of accounts, in a democratic Mexico after a year 2000.
